Business Details
We have served the Nashville drum community since our founding in 1982 by Gary Forkum. Our shop began as a literal closet in the back of Corner Music and has grown into a full-line destination visited by drummers worldwide. We operated for 27 years at our Bransford Avenue location before moving to Chestnut Street in 2018 under Steve Maxwell's ownership. In 2026, our longtime manager Daniel Douchette purchased the store, returning it to local ownership. We offer expert advice and a try-before-you-buy experience across new and used drums, cymbals, and percussion. Our comprehensive services include lessons, repairs, custom bass drum logo heads, and specialized cymbal edits using a patent-pending technique.
We stock parts from major manufacturers as well as vintage components for older instruments. Our team provides professional djembe reheading with handcrafted heads and outsources bearing edge work to trusted local builders. We maintain a commitment to meeting the needs of modern players while preserving the heritage of a Nashville drum shop. Our staff includes experienced teachers and technicians dedicated to solving any drumming challenge. We offer free shipping on orders over $199 and maintain a physical showroom at 308 Chestnut Street.

Services
Lessons
Our lessons program connects students with experienced teachers for personalized drum instruction tailored to individual skill levels and goals. We accommodate beginners through advanced players seeking to refine technique or explore new styles. Lessons take place in our dedicated teaching studios equipped with quality instruments.
General Repairs
We handle minor and major drum repairs including stripped threads, punctured heads, and structural damage using extensive parts inventory. Our technicians service all major brands and vintage instruments with manufacturer components and custom-fabricated solutions. Repair assessments are provided before any work begins to ensure transparency.
Cymbal Edits
Our patent-pending cymbal edit technique removes cracks from edges using specialized tin snips and grind wheel methods. We also drill and install rivets to enhance cymbal sustain and tonal complexity for discerning players. This proprietary process restores damaged cymbals while preserving original sound characteristics.
Djembe Reheading
We re-head, re-string, and re-tune djembes using handcrafted heads made from the finest components for each specific drum. Our process starts at $185 and includes complete restoration of rope tension and skin seating for optimal tone. Every djembe receives individualized attention to match its unique shell geometry.
Bearing Edges Refinishing
We outsource bearing edge reconditioning and rewrap refinishing to trusted local builders who specialize in precision drum shell work. Rates vary based on shell material, damage extent, and finish complexity to ensure fair pricing. Our partners maintain the highest standards for vintage and modern drum restoration.
