Engaging kids through music since 1992
The Community Music School of Santa Cruz is a non-profit organization that enriches the lives of students, teachers, professional musicians, and the community through music education, performance, and appreciation. Since 1992, we have been dedicated to engaging kids through music and fostering a love for traditional folk music from the Celtic diaspora and beyond.
Our Mission
We believe that music has the power to bring people together, foster creativity, and inspire personal growth. Our mission is to provide a platform for people of all ages to come together, learn from each other, and share their love for music. We achieve this through various programs and services, including music workshops, concerts, summer camps, and ongoing ensembles for musicians age seven and up.
Programs and Services
We offer a range of programs and services designed to promote musical excellence, community engagement, and cultural exchange. Our programs cater to people of all ages and skill levels, from beginner to advanced. Here are some of our most popular programs and services:
Summer Music Camps
Each summer, we produce traditional music camps for children, teens, and adults. Our Kid Camp and Teen Camp programs are staffed by experienced teachers and teaching assistants who specialize in traditional folk music from the Celtic diaspora and beyond. Our camps feature faculty who are not only professional musicians but also outstanding instructors. Students learn and perform in small bands and as a full orchestra, and many of our camps feature evening activities like Irish and Contra dance classes, movie nights, and traditional ceilidhs.
Concerts
Throughout the year, we host a range of concerts that celebrate the diversity of traditional folk music from around the world. Our concerts feature a variety of instruments and musical styles, and they provide a unique opportunity for audiences to experience the joy and beauty of traditional music.
Music Teachers
We believe that the right teacher can make all the difference in a student's musical journey. That's why we maintain a database of local music teachers who are passionate about sharing their expertise with others. Our teachers offer private lessons, group classes, and workshops, and they cater to students of all ages and skill levels.
Donations
We rely on the generosity of our donors to support our programs and services. Your donation can help us continue to provide high-quality music education, workshops, and performances to people of all ages. Your support can also help us maintain our community music school and ensure that our programs remain affordable and accessible to all.
Board of Directors
Our board of directors is comprised of dedicated individuals who share our passion for traditional folk music and our commitment to community engagement. Our board members come from diverse backgrounds and possess a range of skills and expertise, from teaching and administration to music performance and philanthropy.
