Brooklyn Youth Chorus Academy

Brooklyn Youth Chorus is a revered institution known for its artistic rigor and musical training, providing young people with world-class voice training and performance opportunities. Established in 1992, the choir has been serving the New York City community by offering top-tier musical instruction to its more than 600 choristers, divided into seven training divisions based on age and experience level.

Our comprehensive programs run from September to June each year and consist of vocal instruction, private lessons, and group performances. The choir employs the unique Cross-Choral Training method, a holistic and experiential approach to teaching voice and musicianship in a group setting. This method focuses on healthy vocal development, music literacy, and group performance, providing a well-rounded musical education for our students.

Our older students have the privilege of participating in our performing ensembles, which work on special projects throughout the year. These ensembles have performed in various settings, including concert halls, professional recording studios, and original choral productions. Our ensembles have also collaborated with esteemed artists and organizations, such as the New York Philharmonic, The National, Sir Elton John, and many more.

Education

Our education programs cater to students in grades 2-12 and are tailored to their age and experience level. The choir is divided into ten divisions, ensuring that each student receives appropriate instruction and challenges. The Cross-Choral Training method forms the basis of our educational approach, encompassing functional voice training, voice science, group performance, and music literacy.

Performing Ensembles

Brooklyn Youth Chorus's performing ensembles offer older students the opportunity to participate in special projects, including live appearances, professional recordings, and original choral productions. These ensembles have garnered recognition for their professional-level performances, often collaborating with renowned artists and organizations.

History

Founded in 1992, Brooklyn Youth Chorus has been dedicated to providing the highest-quality musical training to New York City's young people. The choir has grown in reputation and reach, becoming one of the top youth choirs in the United States. In addition to our training and educational programming, our performing ensembles deliver more than 30 professional-level performances each season, including commissioned full-length vocal theater productions and artistic collaborations.
