Fulkerson Music Studio

At Fulkerson Music Instruction, we are dedicated to providing the best quality music instruction for all ages and skill levels. With over 35 years of experience, we offer private lessons in a variety of instruments including guitar, bass, drumset, mallet keyboard, percussion, piano, vocal, brass, and woodwinds. Additionally, we provide rock band classes and our renowned Resonators Percussion Ensemble.

Meet Our Founder, Jim Fulkerson

Jim Fulkerson, our founder, grew up musically in the Midland Public Schools, playing in the school band program from grades five through twelve. He also attended Interlochen Arts Academy and played in their All-State Band program. After completing his education, he played in various bands professionally for approximately twelve years before starting his teaching studio. He has celebrated the 30th anniversary of the studio and now has six teachers and over 230 students studying a wide variety of instruments every week.

In 2003, he started the Resonators Percussion Ensemble, which has grown to 70 members ranging in age from 8 to 56, and they perform all over the state. Jim is proud to say he has had students on the drumlines at the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Central Michigan University, Saginaw Valley State University, Western Michigan University, Penn State, Purdue, Notre Dame, Eastern Michigan University, and Grand Valley State University. He also played the drums on the Praise and Worship Team at Victory Christian Center for fourteen years. He is the winner of the 2007 Kendall-Pelton Musician of the Year Award and the Blue Rhythm Quartet led by Jim Fulkerson won the 2010 Review Music Awards Artist of the Year Award.

Our Teaching Staff

Our teaching staff is comprised of experienced musicians who are passionate about teaching and dedicated to helping students achieve their musical goals. Our staff includes Bryan Rombalski, Matt Burgie, Mark Shelley, David Miller, and Deb Taylor, who offer lessons in various instruments including guitar, bass, drum set, mallet keyboard, percussion, piano, vocal, brass, and woodwinds. They are also available to help students find a teacher if they are interested in learning an instrument that we do not teach.

Resonators Percussion Ensemble

The Resonators Percussion Ensemble is a vibrant and dynamic group that performs a variety of musical styles on an array of mallet keyboards, drums, timpani, Latin percussion, and accessories of all kinds, along with some unconventional items such as trash cans, shop tools, and brake drums. Their colorful sounds, captivating rhythms, and visual impact are guaranteed to invigorate audiences young and old. Check us out on YouTube!

The Resonators Percussion Ensemble consists of five school groups (4th through 12th grade), an adult group, and a professional group. Each group consists of approximately 12 members. The ensemble can perform as separate entities or as a combined company of 81 musicians.
