Nurturing a lifelong love of music and learning

The Preucil School of Music was established in Iowa City, Iowa in 1975 and has become internationally known for excellence in music instruction. Our mission is to provide a welcoming environment where students of all ages can explore their musical talents and abilities. The Preucil School of Music offers Suzuki instruction for instrument lessons in violin, viola, cello, bass, piano, flute, and harp. Group classes, orchestras, chamber music, master classes, and a wide range of related music activities are also available to students of all ages.

Our Philosophy

The Suzuki method, developed by Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, is a philosophy that focuses on nurturing the whole child, and not just teaching a skill. The method is based on the idea that every child has the potential to become a proficient musician, just as every child learns to speak their native language. By starting at a young age and using positive reinforcement, parents, teachers, and students work together to foster a lifelong love of music and learning.

Music Lessons

At the Preucil School of Music, we offer lessons for students of all ages and skill levels. Whether you're a beginner, an adult looking to continue your musical journey, or a teacher seeking training, we have a place for you. Our faculty is dedicated to providing a supportive and encouraging environment for all students, and we offer a variety of group classes, orchestras, chamber music, master classes, and other related music activities to enhance your learning experience.

Teacher Training

We believe that teachers play a crucial role in shaping the musical journey of their students. Therefore, we offer extensive teacher training programs to equip our faculty with the skills and knowledge needed to provide the best possible instruction. Our training programs focus on the Suzuki method and cover topics such as teaching techniques, repertoire, and how to create a nurturing learning environment.

Preucil Preschool

The Preucil Preschool is a fine arts preschool for children ages three to five that fosters the child's ability to explore, create, and imagine. Our curriculum is based on the Reggio Emilia approach, which emphasizes self-directed learning and hands-on exploration. Our dedicated faculty works closely with parents to ensure that each child receives the individualized attention and care they need to thrive.

Music Together

Music Together is a program designed for children newborn to age four and their parents or caregivers. This fun-filled music and movement experience encourages children to learn through playful, developmentally appropriate activities. By participating in Music Together, children develop their musical skills, social skills, and creativity while bonding with their caregivers.

Community Support

At the Preucil School of Music, we believe that music has the power to bring people together and enrich our lives. Therefore, we are committed to providing an environment that is welcoming to all people. We strive to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion for all, and we believe that every individual deserves the opportunity to experience the joy of music.

Special Events

Throughout the year, the Preucil School of Music hosts various special events, including concerts, recitals, and workshops. These events provide our students with opportunities to showcase their talents, learn from guest artists, and connect with the wider musical community. We also partner with local organizations to bring music to those who may not have access to it otherwise.
