I play drums, piano, and guitar, and have had many teachers with each, and I can confidently say that Chris is a top tier teacher. He covers all of the bases (theory, scale practice, improv, transcription, etc.), and will ensure you develop a well-rounded skillset. You won't be disappointed.
The methodology Chris uses to teach beginners keeps you very engaged too. Im sure its different for every student depending on skill level and aptitude, but Ive really enjoyed getting into learning music from the first lesson and peppering fundamentals and music theory in between learning new songs. Ive gotten a lot better since starting here and am hope to continue that progress to be good in the future!
Logistically speaking, I appreciate the flexibility of being able to meet in person or online, and it's easy to reschedule lessons if necessary. I highly recommend his studio!
He's an accomplished musician, who seems like he truly wants to share his knowledge and help his students learn to play - which certainly makes it fun for me! I tend to want to learn everything at once - and Chris has been great at keeping me focused and learning proper practice habits.
* I decided to pick up playing guitar (Electric of course!) in my late 40's...having never played an instrument in my life. How hard can it be, right? So I got online, and off I went...trying to figure it out. Eventually though, (almost 3 years later) I realized that I wasn't really progressing as much as I wanted. So, why not contact Chris and see what he's about...can't hurt!?
Now it's been a full year of lessons later - Three things stand out to me;
1) I wish I would've picked up the guitar earlier...
2) I wish I would've contacted Chris straight away when I first picked up the guitar!
3) I've learned so much more in the past year than the previous 3 years, it's not even close.
Anyway, I don't write many reviews, but felt compelled to speak up this time. Do yourself a favor and contact Chris if you're wanting to learn(and/or advance) your playing skills. You'll be happy you did ~
Im sure I dont begin to appreciate the extent of his guitar skills. I do know a lot about teaching, and Chris is a gifted teacherprofessional, innovative, enthusiastic, organized, knowledgeable.
I highly recommend him.
Chris's instruction has transformed me from someone who "plays the guitar" to someone who truly understands the instrument and its potential. In about 18 months of lessons my playing in terms of both technique and creativity are significantly improved, and I'm on the road to becoming the guitar player I've always wanted to be.
For the last year I have been taking guitar lessons from Chris, also. Doing it more for a creative outlet and to help my failing memory than any sort of talent, Chris is great with me also. Patient and positive, even when I play like crap or havent had time to practice; I feel like he meets me at my level of commitment and speed without judgment or frustration. I recommend Chris wholeheartedly for any age or level of guitar instruction.
