We are a local business that has been serving the community for over 45 years, offering a variety of services including instrument rentals, sales, lessons, and repairs. Our Story

Sound Beach Music was founded in 1978 by Tony Sanns, a professional drummer who taught lessons out of his home in Sound Beach. As his student base grew, he moved his business to a small storefront in the Market Square strip mall, where he continued to teach drum, guitar, and piano lessons. Over time, he added more new and used instruments and accessories for sale, eventually hiring Steve Subject, a local singer/guitarist, to teach guitar and bass lessons.

In 1986, Steve took over the shop from Tony and Tina Sanns, renaming it Sound Beach Music. Under his leadership, the store expanded its offerings to include string, woodwind, brass, and keyboard instruments, as well as repairs and rentals. Steve's girlfriend, Sally Morrison, joined the business in 1987, taking on office duties and managing the growing staff.

Today, Sound Beach Music is owned by Brian Chabza, who continues the legacy of providing top-notch services to the music-loving community of Suffolk County. Our mission is to foster the joy of music and provide a welcoming environment for musicians of all levels.
