Heart & Soul Music Studio

Heart & Soul Music Studio is a place where students of all ages can come to learn, grow, and express themselves through music. Our mission is to instill the love of music making in our students and to help them develop their musical skills and talents to the fullest. We offer a wide range of services designed to meet the unique needs and goals of each student.

Private Piano Lessons

Our private piano lessons are 45-minute sessions that are tailored to meet the specific needs and goals of each student. We use the "Piano Pronto" series as a base curriculum for our traditional and adult students, and we supplement this with a variety of classical, contemporary, jazz, and popular selections. Our students are taught theory, technique, and other essential piano fundamentals, and they are encouraged to play music that they love. Tuition for private piano lessons is $160 per month (Sept - May) and includes a reserved spot in the studio and all core music as needed each semester.

Online Lessons

For those who do not reside locally, we offer 30-minute online lessons. These lessons are held remotely and are available to students of all ages. Online students receive a bonus lesson the week of normally scheduled group lessons and a practice packet during the winter camp season. Tuition for online lessons is $150 per month.

Summer Offerings

During the summer, we offer both piano and voice lessons on a per lesson basis. These lessons are 45 minutes long and are generally scheduled weekly or per available time spots. This is a great time to "test the waters" with music lessons without making a full semester commitment. Minimum requirements include a 6 lesson commitment, and if taking piano lessons, an good quality keyboard or piano for home practice.

In addition to our private lessons, we also offer a variety of group classes and workshops. These include our "A Star Is Born" Singer's Workshop for ages 7 - 12, which is a six week workshop that helps young singers develop new skills for their next audition or choir. Topics covered in this workshop include breathing basics, exploring voice range, audition and performance basics, sight reading skills, and fun songs to add to their repertoire.

About Me

Hi! My name is Barbara Githens and I have been teaching music since 2005. I am passionate about helping my students discover their ability to create heartfelt music. My mission as a teacher is to instill the love of music making in my students. I believe that students are learning so much more than just notes on a page. They are learning expression, technique, theory, and a little bit of history. Music is made up of a little bit of math, science, foreign language, and art. These skills are incorporated into weekly lessons.

I am a member of the Kansas City Music Teachers Association (KCMTA), Kansas Music Teachers Association (KMTA), and the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA). Because of my memberships, my students have opportunities to participate in exclusive association events. In addition, these associations allow me to further my musical education which benefits you!
